6 days after making a complaint about my application and I have received an email stating that I have been accepted and to expect my card within 9 working days. Let’s see when they start charging me my £20 and I suspect I’ll be in for a fight when I reach the extra 10k threshold and they don’t pay. Still at least I’m on the path!

I have copied the email received from Barclaycard last night 16th after 6.00pm. I received their confirmation of acceptance by email immediately I applied on 12th January. The Welcome spend bonus of 25k Avios is also wrong in ignoring their ‘special offer.’ – which I will take up with them BUT I wanted to check first if they have increased the annual spend threshold for achieving a cabin upgrade voucher between my application and acceptance date of 12 January and last night’s email

I am the same. I just rang Barclaycard a second time – it’s been a month now. The eligiblity checker wasn’t working when I applied. I was advised that the application had been referred to a due diligence team (or some such) and that there was no way of contacting them other than writing to them by letter. All very frustrating and arcane. Those comments on this website about Barclay’s outdated IT certainly ring through!
I called again and was given the same excuse that my application is stuck and they have raised an incident ticket. I have decided to raise my own ticket and have made a complaint. They asked what they could do to resolve the complaint and I said give me a decision! Most probably get rejected now but this is ridiculous. Thing is I have a very good credit history, previously held a Barclaycard (3 yrs ago) and have held an Amex etc for over 20 years. I have 2 soft searches (9th Dec and 31 Dec) on my credit score from Barclays so something has happened. If it wasn’t for the Avios offer I would tell them to poke it.

I rang again and received the same answer that I had last time, my application is stuck and IT have raised a ticket. I have now raised a ticket with them and made a complaint! Most probably will be rejected now but this is ridiculous. I was asked what could make the complaint go away and I said a decision on my application. There’s nothing contentious in my application. Previously had a Barclaycard, lived at same address for over 20 years and have a very good credit history. I just don’t know what their issue is.

I just applied for this and I didn’t get an instant response of acceptance.
Seeing as the deadline for applications is the 15th, if they only approve my application after the deadline will I still get the SUB?Conditions state apply by not accepted by. I applied 7th Dec and I’m still waiting to hear. Can’t get any joy ringing up apart from they have the application!

This happened to me. I tried online to sort it and by ringing. In the end I rang during UK office hours and spoke to somebody in Brighton. The outcome? They looked at the offers that were on at the time and gave me the bonus, even though it wasn’t showing on their system as a referral. Learnt my lesson from that.

Bit the bullet and applied for the card a few days ago. After filling out all the details, the website said their eligibility checker wasn’t working so I could either apply without it or try again later… Not wanting to do the whole thing again, I pressed submit and (perhaps unsurprisingly) they said they could not give me a decision straightaway but would be in touch…
What is odd though is that I received no emails at all from them since, not even an acknowledgement of the application, so I don’t even have a record that I applied! (Didn’t take a screenshot.)
Anyone else has been in this position? I don’t want to apply a second time…[/quote)
Exactly the same. I previously held the card about 3 years ago. Applied again on 071225 and told I would hear within 5 working days. Nothing. I rang them up and they confirmed they had received the application and I would hear shortly. 3 weeks later still nothing.

Tonight I tried to downgrade from the Bapp to the Blue card and was told that I wasn’t allowed as the option wasn’t showing on my account! I have been with Amex a number of years and have done this before without issue. This was via online chat and being fairly late, will try Brighton tomorrow. Has anybody else been told that the option to drop the card isn’t available?
Try this from a desktop browser:

As Northern Lass said, as long as you are named on the others account no problem. We called the USA hotline at midnight and used 2 vouchers for 4 of us travelling to Cancun next month. All very straightforward although I have heard you may have to try ringing a couple of times to get an amenable agent but we were lucky 1st time.

A data point – or more proof that the t&c are correct –
Used the dining credit at 20 Jan at the Ivy.
Had planned on cancelling the card due to no longer using the insurance and dining credit being fairly useless here in Cornwall. Called up to cancel – no incentive offered – asked about the dining credit £150 being credited and how I would accept it (ie could I still view the cancelled account) was initially told by two agents (foreign then Brighton) that it would die with the card. I told them both they were wrong and to read the T&C.
Cancelled the card 17th February.
Received a refund on membership fees to the card on 18 February.
Withdrew that via live chat on 19 February.
https://i.ibb.co/w0pSZKr/Screen-Shot-2024-02-21-at-07-25-23.png
Then 20 February the dining credit appears on the cancelled card.
Went onto live chat and moved the credit to my bank which is now pending on my bank.
I hope this clears up the cancelling versus not receiving the credit question.
14th February 2024 at 23:15 in reply to: Is the 29th Feb deadline to cancel a Platinum card for a refund set in stone?windym 30 posts
Only thing I will add is don’t count on the refund for the restaurant spend to come through before the 29th Feb. I’m still waiting for the credit 25 days after using the card in an Ivy. Email came through straight away but so far no credit. If you are thinking of cancelling, then do it now but after transferring all you MR’s as previously said.

More forum drama about nothing! The offer is part of T&C therefore if used prior to cancellation it will complete after cancellation where necessary. In the same way, should anyone try to pull a fast one on say HN by returning an item after card cancellation for a refund then they should (rightly) expect this to catch up with them.
Alas, T&C state the card needs to be current to get the refund. No card, no refund (confirmed by Amex).
I’m not churning. I renewed the card back in October and would have kept it if the travel insurance didn’t require payment via the card for full coverage. Having recently booked a hotel, using the Amex to pay would have cost over £500 in FX fees. Obviously I need a comprehensive travel policy so have paid for one. The figures don’t add up for me.
Back onto the topic, the credit still has yet to appear 16 days after using it. Last year I used the dining credit home and abroad and both times the credit appeared in my account within 5 days.

Contacted Amex today asking where my credit was after using it 9 days ago. They stated should appear within 30 days but can take 150 days and nothing they could do to speed it up as it’s an automated process. Now what if, with the possible ending of pro rata refunds ending on 29th Feb, they stop paying out until after this date, which means it would be pointless cancelling the card. As I have used the Local dining credit, they would not be out of pocket.
Would they be that devious or is it just sour grapes by me as I want to cancel the card when the credit has landed.

I used my credit in The Ivy exactly a week ago. Had the email confirmation that I had used it but no sign yet of it landing. Bit of a pain really as I’m going to cancel the card as soon as the credit is in.
12th December 2023 at 16:25 in reply to: Am I missing some value with the Platinum Card?windym 30 posts
Hi thanks for all the replies. It is a refundable rate until the day before. The hotel is Excellence Riveria Maya and its for 2 rooms.I have tried around to get a better price in GBP so I could use the Plat but the hotel have very competitive rates booking direct.
I didn’t realise medical is still covered even if I don’t pay with the card but I think I may just get rid of the Plat card and buy an all in one policy to cover everything. Thanks again.
4th December 2023 at 17:23 in reply to: The ‘How to book the return leg with 2-4-1 companion voucher’ threadwindym 30 posts
@windym – you will have to make 2 separate bookings if the vouchers are in different accounts, there is no way around this. What you can do for your inbound flights is make sure one of you is authorised on the other’s account then when you get through to BA explain that you’re using 2 vouchers and ask them to hold the 4 seats for you.
Thank you.

My wife and I both have a 2-4-1 which we plan to use next year to take our son and his girlfriend away. I can get the flights out to the Caribbean but will need to ring the States at midnight to make sure we can get back. I’m a bit twitchy because I need 4 seats. I only have enough Avios to cover the flights so I do have to ring.
I have never used 2 x 2-4-1 on the same booking and assume that there is way BA will link them so that when I do ring up the States, they would be able to grab all 4 seats together. If that is so, is there a problem if my wife and I go ahead and book the seats online going out then ring to try to link or should I ring up the Blue Exec line (no status) and pay the admin fee to book the outbound. What is the best way to attack this? Thank you.

Two days after I received my card I rang up (it wasn’t Brighton) and they put the offers straight on. I had to be specific about the offers I required added.

When you book a hotel, the offer is shown. We used ours to book a hotel for one night in Kos in September. The £200 credit showed in our account before the hotel came out.

All sorted. Bit of a mare trying to speak to somebody but the short of it is as long as I have written confirmation that the hotel doesn’t accept Amex then I will be covered.

We have a holiday coming up in September. I’ve paid for the flights with Amex Plat but the hotel on a separate booking doesn’t take Amex. I’ll give Axa a call tomorrow to see if I’m covered for the hotel as well but anybody else had the same issue and if so, what was Axa’s reply? Thanks
windym 30 posts
Is this still broken for everyone else? I too am trying to spend my credit but not getting anything on several different searches.
Yes still down. I’m trying to book and nothing is coming up. Amex said there is a problem (I know) and to try again later.

At what point in the membership year do you ask for a retention offer? Just before or after the fee has gone through?
I’m 7 months into my card. The 35k they promised 4 days ago hasn’t appeared yet so I may have to chase them up.
3rd June 2023 at 15:56 in reply to: Post your American Express Platinum retention offers here!windym 30 posts
Membership up in November. Live chat today offered 35k which I accepted. Again no requirement to stay etc but that in my opinion is good value (although 50k would have been better)
