    Not exactly reliable though..
For instance, L’Epicure has three stars, which is in Amex’s list, and it doesn’t show there..

Morning! Some reportage re my ex former best friend Mr McToadrick. He is a bit confused at this as his view is he just did what any person would have done. But I did not know that BA cabin crew can report passengers up the food chain? Do they get golden tickets too? I wonder if you would get less Avios for helping someone out if you were a lowly Blue? So many questions. in some ways the thank you email would be nicer without the Avios bung as the acknowledgment is all that matters. But still a nice touch.

    Dear Mr McToadrick

A Thank You from British Airways

We have been given a report from our Cabin Crew from flight BAXXX on XXX from XXX, where they have shared with us how you helped out an extremely nervous customer who was petrified of flying. They explained how you provided support to calm [pronoun] down and were really helpful to them as crew, and they have reached out to show their appreciation and to say thank you.

We value your loyalty as a GGL member of the British Airways Club, and I’ve added 8000 Avios to your Club account as a gesture of our appreciation.

Once again, thank you for your kindess and for assisting the crew onboard. We hope to welcome you back on board soon.

    Best regards

    XXX

Now I see how he was your “former” bestie 🙂

If you haven’t done AU/NZ before, it is brutally a long flight. When I will do it again, I will definitely break it into 2 day stopovers.
Particularly for NZ even border check takes forever because of their ecological protection etc measures.

Payment aggregators often cause problems as Amex cannot track the spend.
It happened to me at a different restaurant last year — I waited 2 full work weeks and contacted them multiple times during UK work hours by phone to get it sorted — took a lot of time, I must say. People you’ll talk to are completely clueless about this issue. At least they were when I had to deal with it last year.

@Holidayguy Enjoy! I, too, learned a lot here and made many mistakes (including downgrading my own Barclaycard Avios Plus, and unable to upgrade back ever again!)…
It is part of the journey I guess..

12k Avios for £3k spend in the next 6 months over chat for P2.

somewhere in Italy long time ago, I can’t even remember where, offered free fast track to WE holders. I tried my World, and got denied.
sometimes MC itself throws some quick and small perks like that..

There are some interesting deals in Times+, may be worth checking out. I’ve got free tickets to a travel show so that I can meet Simon Calder

So, the trouble is the SHA-Hainan bit, which you may not be allowed to do.

Thanks @can2 – I’m a little confused as this Shanghai.gov website states Hainan is one of the 24 provinces in the permitted stay areas:

    https://english.shanghai.gov.cn/en-visas/20241217/3405c236effd4e41af8450a56f4d36a2.html

Has this changed now, or am I reading this incorrectly?

    TIA

Your total stay in China cannot be longer than 10 days. Initially you said 5 + 10 days, which clearly exceeds the limit.

I’d not mess with chinese authorities unless you have the orange clown on speed dial!

    I’d get a visa, too.

Don’t you need to leave the mainland to take advantage of this? After SHA, you are not transiting.
Otherwise you can just ping pong between different provinces.

I’d love to know the exact answer to this too, happy to be refuted.

This is my understanding now, so I am currently at the drawing board as I type 🙂

I understand that I can travel from SHA to Hainan under the scheme, but then I need to travel to a third country after that, so: UK – SHA – HAK – Other country

I hope my understanding is correct!

When I did it at PEK on my way to TPE, the condition was to leave the country immediately after the stay at Beijing. I had to show the onward ticket to get the stamp at PEK. But it was before the pandemic.
So, the trouble is the SHA-Hainan bit, which you may not be allowed to do.

Offered 10k MR points for £1k spend, for P2’s low spend card.
Cancelled to start the 2 year clock.

Couldve waited until you receive the 10k points and then cancel it.

True, but we are very much annoyed by the Plat, and just use it for sign up bonuses every two years. Just wanted to be done with it.
