@KCB I think BAEC no longer allow you to input / save credit card info in advanced without making online booking anymore. The only way I can think of is make a dummy booking, store/save your credit card info and call BA to cancel your booking within the 24 hrs “cooling off” period.

@warrior01 just wonder if you have had any luck with your cancellation? I am having upcoming stays in Thailand (one next week and another one in the summer) and thinking of getting this membership and was hoping to use the Stay Plus Free night for the next week stay…

However, from what you wrote above it seems that the voucher of the Stay Plus Free night did not arrive instantly upon signing-up? Did you receive it at the end?

@Sudz74 Thanks for the data point. Was that due to lounge-hopping? 🙂

We were hoping to get through early to use QR premium lounge as it is closed between 2000hr – 2200hr.

Thanks BAFIHGS! Found it in MMB — Check-in info.

    Check-in:
ba.com online check-in opens 24 hours before departure and closes 1 hour before departure. You may check in online for this flight and print your own boarding pass or use a mobile boarding pass. If you have baggage to check in you can print your bag tag at a check-in kiosk and take your tagged bag to a bag drop desk.

Self service kiosk check-in opens 4 hours before departure and closes 1 hour before departure. Kiosk location – Check-in row R.

    Yes you can do this.

I managed to do exactly this for 2026). Depending on the agent, be ready to hang up and call again if needed, on the outbound, I booked LHR-SIN (for mid-June 2026), plenty of availability so it is easier and straightforward. However, on the return BKK-LGW, I needed to explain the situation that I would like 3 x Seats in J and as bookings need to be made separately (1 x booking for Barclay Upgrade Voucher and 1 x booking for Amex 241). Some agent “preferred” to do it one by one and that won’t work if it is really on high demand. However, if the agent was kind enough (like in my case) they will hold all 3 seats for you (they may need to seek approval from their supervisor however). But yes all 3 x seats in J can be held by the agent and the bookings can then be made. Alternatively, you can have 2 of you and your partner call up at the same time etc. Make sure you prepared to have all the details for your partner as authorised person to your BAEC account. Good luck!

Yes, done that. Not KUL but SIN which geographically is slight further out. Upgrade Barclay voucher works fine as well.

Switched to BT (shown as EE once connected) earlier this year with TCB and additional £50 in giftcard and all that. It accepts Paypal which I then paid 12 months upfront. The contract is for 24 months though which may not be for everyone.

Thanks @TherealSwissTony I have been reading the Amex plat insurance policy but I could not find the exact wording where the Excess is covered. I am looking at Enterprise for a trip in Norway and my excess is 20,000NOK unless paying for Zero Excess which is £38 a day!

I kicked myself a bit as I did purchase Zero Excess last year when renting in Canada. I should have read the T&C better. I thought the Amex insurance only covers the normal accident claim and not Excess.

@iadnv someone can confirm, but I am pretty sure I read somewhere in the Forum that you don’t even need to use your Amex Plat card to pay for the car rental.

Just want to tag along to this thread please — I expect the voucher (via Barclay Avios Current Account). It says within 5 days after anniversary date for when the voucher appears. Anyone has direct experience with this please? Kinda need this asap to book flight (used with Amex voucher).

Dear all, first time trying to pre-book a can rental in Norway (Enterprise to be exact) to make the most out of £75 credit offer with £300 spend.

Anyway, with Amex Platinum card, I understand car insurance is part of the card benefits. I tried to read through this thread and also did a bit of homework via Amex website (https://www.americanexpress.com/content/dam/amex/en-gb/benefits/UK-Platinum-insurance-documentation-May-2023.pdf)

    I see that:

1.5 CAR RENTAL BENEFITS– THEFT, DAMAGE AND LIABILITY
    YOUR BENEFITS
The Car Rental Benefits under this Section provide cover in place of the additional or optional insurances
offered by Your car rental companies such as:
    • Collision Damage Waiver (often referred to as CDW)
    • Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
    • Removal/reduction of excess (Super CDW/LDW)
    • Theft Protection (TP)
    • Top Up/ Supplemental Liability (SLI)
    • Personal Accident (PA) (See Personal Accident benefit, Section 1.7)

Can anyone confirm that — I do not have to include the Zero Excess offers by Entreprise which comes at £25 a day extra and if anything happen to car, I can claim back via Amex. Any guidance / advice are much appreciated.

Also my understanding from this thread is that Amex Car Rental Insurance Covers Excess

On the MR card, Small Luxury Hotels, a generous £100 back when you spend £300 by 15/8

This is an interesting one as SLH is part of Hilton and given they are “small hotels” — very high chance that pre-paid rate (via online booking) will be processed locally regardless and therefore trigger the credit back? Might need to call and ask the the hotel to charge your card before 15/8 though.

Thanks everyone. It always amaze me (in a good way) as how diverse perspective each traveller got and that’s the reason HfP is such a unique site!

As @Deek said CCR is probably worth doing once which I agreed but maybe not to certain if you are travelling from the province (in my case EDI) as @Froggee said.

In addition, I managed to find a leg with QR F into BKK anyway (my final destination) so that’s a win-win. It is not my first time but agreed with @JDB that the A380 is in a league of its own in terms of comfort.

Mainly agreed with the rest in terms of breaking the trips in 2 halves helps with jetlag.

Just thinking if I can throw this one into the hat as well?

    AY1372 connecting to AY141, EDI-HEL-BKK: 80.5k avios + ~£260.

My main concern with AY as I’ve been tracking flight the last 7 days, is the cancellation and delay of the EDI-HEL leg which really put ~1hr connection into an almost impossible mission. But I would like to try AY AirLounge once.

Again, always good to hear people’s perspective.

@dreamflyer1 QR has the same baggage allowance for either avios or cash tickets, at least for Business and First Class. For Economy Class, I am guessing avios ticket allowance is the same as Economy Classic ticket allowance.

@bowenm187 thanks for sharing. very useful to know. I’ve never booked through AY yet as tax is higher than BA on the same flight somehow. But how much is the cancellation fees from AY?

@BJ I missed the 300% bit until I look deeper into it. Currently Hainan airline got some good value to Asia and it is 300% based on wheretocredit. I’ve also got multiple AC flights later this summer too so will try to make the most out of it but as you mentioned it is a good heft 60-75k now for long haul redemption but on a brighter side, it is still low tax.

I used this October last year. I cannot remember the exact timeline (i.e. whether or not my rental period was within or after the Amex offer period) — but as it was pre-paid, it triggered the offer straightaway. I think as long as your rental with pre-paid, it is fine.

I did something similarly but in reverse a couple years ago which I do not know if, as mentioned above, still work in your favour re-tax implications while mixing BA and IB.

But yes, it is allowed. I did INV-LHR-SCL in BA First. Return with IB in J, from EZE-MAD.

I booked both legs separately. Then call YouFirdt to get 50% avios back from the IB leg.

    Hi @Froggee

Just about to hit the bed as been a long day here in 38 deg Celsius Thailand!

Totally agreed with you that falls in to that life is too short for such and will call back tomorrow to get it paid and tickets issued. I have been warned about such incidences. by a nice BA agent yesterday and did read them here too.

I booked mine about a month ago, 3 pax in club online. I would call luck more than anything else. GBP to THB was still around 42.5 I would say compared to now. It still shows me similar amount as with maximum avios option as I tried to do a dummy booking again in Club.

    Thanks @NorthernLass

Yesterday I spoke to BA agent in the UK. Today I did go through to India based ones. That may explain it but receiving such email from the back-office does mean that something is required.

Edit: I just went and tried to a do a dummy booking (same route but this time all the way to GLA). The tax is indeed ~£11 higher than stopping at LGW. This is for max. avios option. So it complicated things up a bit… So fair enough. I will just call back and pay BA! 😀

@NorthernLass it says this when trying to cancel.

    Please get in touch
Sorry, we can’t cancel your booking online.

I will give BA a call. Thank you.

@gerjomarty yes likewise. It now says I earned 1300 avios instead of 800 clan point. Just link both accounts and have a sweet ~10k avios top up into my BAEC. 🙂
