It won’t help you now but British Passport holders can use the e-gates but you just need to register (10-15min process landside at the Police Office)

Lived in Delhi for 3 years with many a trip to Jaipur – Contact Sam (guide) on whatsapp: +91 98280 86114

Dinner – Bar Palladio is great but depends what you want, otherwise Old Takeaway the Kebab shop is very authentic. Best bread I had in N.India.

This is an interesting thread as I am an expat living in India. In general to use an international card for travel payments (where the vendor doesn’t accept international cards – i.e. Indigo) you can just use an OTA. I regularly use ixigo with an international card.

I have an Indian bank account and so use UPI the whole time, and not head of anyone using it with an international account. You can use Apple Pay in the higher end retailers and restaurants other wise for most other purchases of a significant value a normal international visa/mastercard (physical) works fine. I’ve never had to switch to my local card.

    @masaccio
    – an issuer app would be any application that facilitates UPI. These are PayTM / Gpay / PhonePe (and more).

I lived in Ghana from 2019 – 2023, so interesting to hear/read this review. If anyone else in planning a trip happy to share details, there is a lot to “avoid” from the guide book and lots of hidden gems. Sounds like you had a good time though 🙂

One thing you missed in your trip is the Accra night life (not for everyone, and not for me) but my wife loved it and would regularly return at 4am with a group of other girls. It was safe enough for this to not be an issue.

Don’t get me started on the roads…. !!

Hi! I live in Delhi so fly both pretty frequently. If Vistara is only marginally more expensive I would fly them. Nothing wrong with Ingido, it’s super efficient but Vistara is just slightly nicer 😁

From experience of catching the 0630 to BCN last couple of weeks there is no one trying to get through security at 0530 so you will be fine…

I’m currently living in Delhi, lots and lots of good quality hotels (Taj and Oberoi among two that are very nice). You get pretty good vfm in Delhi as well.

It will be pretty hot still in August, potentially nearer 40 than 30 during the day and there may be monsoon rains as well. All that to say – be prepared for disruption!

Tourist sites I would recommend (assuming you’re going to see Taj/Agra as well):
    1. Humuyans Tomb and Sundar Nursery
    2. Qutub Minar
    3. If you want to enjoy and evening walk round a park then Lodhi garden is nice, as is Nehru park
    4. A tour of Old Delhi is worth it along with Jama Masjid: do this early in the morning! A walking tour is a good idea
    5. Red fort can be missed if you’re going to Agra Fort but otherwise can be a good stop.

Agra is easily done in a day but I wouldn’t recommend unless you stay for one night and do Taj at dawn in August. Will be hot and busy otherwise. I went in July and it was just about manageable!

Uber is semi-reliable and a half decent way to get around.

There isn’t a jaw dropping difference in time (<30mins) between the Hikari (included in rail pass) and Nozomi (not included), and with your journey you’ll likely save a lot by using the JR rail pass – however you can’t make reservations before you get to Japan.

Best site for train travel is my old friend Mark at: seat61.com/Japan.htm

He gives a number of other sites you could try.

Slightly OT but close enough – has anyone had any luck with getting into. Lufthansa Lounge with Dragonpass. They used to appear in the app, but when I log in they have disappeared, has there been a change in offering?

    Thanks!

If you can wangle a reason to get a business visa it takes less than 2 days.

However @strickers is correct, appointments are hard to come by.

I stayed at “Bay Landing” after a trip around California, was pleasant enough for a one night stay before a flight. I paid £90 for a double room but I dont know if prices were lower due to traveling in September ’21.

I agree with Lyn though, the “Bay” area is nice. Great view of landing planes and nice waterfront. There is a choice of Marriot / Holiday Inn etc… all along that stretch. If you neded to take a Taxi to the airport, it would be v.quick.

in reply to: Duty of care – flight moved forward

Yes, duty of care applies as the delay is over 5hrs also compensation of £520 would apply. Keep receipts and no alcohol.

Out of interest, how did you find entry into Ghana regarding testing and waiting time for results?

I dont think compensation applies as flight is early March – but hopefully duty of care does.

re. entry into Ghana – It’s one of the more complicated countries to enter. I’ve been lucky enough to travel throughout the pandemic for work. But as with everything, if you are well prepared it’s no issue. The $150 for the anti-gen test on arrival is hard to swallow given what you’re paying for – but I’ve never waited more than 30 minutes for the result. You are likely to wait longer for your bags if flying BA!

Possible compensation would depend on how much notice of the cancellation Sherlock has been given.

If Sherlock has BA lounge access than that complies with the duty of care requirements.

I’ve been given +4weeks notice, I’ve assumed no compensation just trying to make the airport wait a little nicer! Sadly just downgraded to bronze and will only go back to Siver after my return journey!

Hi all – posting here to avoid creating a new thread.

I’m flying into LHR from Accra and BA have cancelled my connection onto Munich. They have offererd me rebooking onto the next available flight – but it requires a 6 hour layover (rather than 2) at Heathrow.

There aren’t really any other re-routing options.

If I accept their change am I entitled to any compensation for food/drink in the airport during my wait?

    Thanks!
