Update. No fees from either Citi or HSBC to transfer. Changed some USD to GBP at 1.267 which is reasonable using HSBC Global account.

Update. Managed to book Hampton clichy for 50k points per night vs 436 euro nightly rate. Happy with that. Not far to gare du nord or state de France

Fair play to the telegraph. But how poor are the ombudsman taking a generic email rather than the specific one sent to the customer. Honestly the ombudsman has so many poor trained/not very smart people working there

I was able to check in but couldn’t get boarding pass for my flight yesterday. Asked at airport and they didn’t seem to know why.

Interesting. One brother’s card works, but my other brother’s did not and same issue though the 3DS came.

Other brother’s card worked last night. Very odd

Yep it’s nonsense from curve. They advertise to pay off HMRC or NS&I but when it doesn’t work they don’t fix it quickly. Unreal theres a paid add from them today on HFP haha

The app says “your contactless limit reqched. please use chip and pin for this transaction”.

Been having this exact same issue yesterday and today. Have been out and made a chip and pin transaction but no joy. Curve support were quite good at responding within a few hours today to be fair, but no resolution as yet. They say it’s something to do with 3D Secure on the specific transaction I’m trying to make (which is the same one I make every month and it’s never been a problem so far, and it can only be done online so no chip and pin possible). The weird thing is I haven’t made any contactless transactions in the last month, so presumably the message about reaching my contactless limit is a red herring. Very annoying as we’re now eating into my rolling 30 day Fronted schedule…

Likewise same issue. Curve metal becomes pointless if this doesn’t work

Update. They then expired the points 3 months later which they say they told me (but they didn’t as you can’t see messages once closed on their website). That’s although the app showed a June 2024 expiry. I’ve opened multiple tickets since and finally one of them has reinstated my points. It states an expiry of Jan 2025 though this time they emailed me to state they expire in 3 months. Bit mad really that their system gives the wrong date.

Will activity preserve them or are they gone 100% in 3 months?

Thanks both! From what I can tell Citibank won’t charge a fee for the transfer. The $7 and $25 probably works best for me given 5 figure sum involved. Shame Citibank are closing as I’ve used their time deposits since rates have gone up and the USD interest is decent

Citi now given me a closure date of February. Just to confirm from those who use this account if I move my USD to a HSBC USD Currency account it will charge 7 USD and then I can move this to my a HSBC Global Money account to convert to GBP at a reasonable rate?

Just checking on this in case anyone knows? My Citibank account closes in a month or so

Are you booking in the app or desktop? App only allows “book by” but desktop allows “stay by”. It’s weird.

Ah yess I remember you saying this before. Thanks for the reminder

Isn’t it book by, not stay by? Mine are.

Mine were. But seem to have changed recently to stay by. How can they do that?

And to be fair to hsbc at least they take responsibility unlike useless Barclays who never find fault in their staff or processes.

And another £100 due to delays in opening my account. Was texted form to sign would be available in my account and it wasn’t. Chat said to wait a few days but it never came. Went to branch in the end to sign it. But they filed it incorrectly so told again it would be available online and it wasn’t. So went to branch again and it finally was sorted.

Agent offered £50 and I said ok but I did have to go twice. At which point he said fair enough I can double to £100. Lovely

Update: HSBC called me upheld my compliant and agreed iPASS is now closed. They offered £40 to compensate me. I said that was ok for time spent but and false info but what if I needed it on a flight and I have a trip coming up. They said to email any receipt for costs and they would cover it. I asked does that mean I should email every time I take a trip for the next year and they thought about it and offered a full refund of my £195 fee. Amazing result.

I had separately complained last week to HSBC about a payment I had made which they blocked and needed further info on. I provided this via a 30 min+ call to someone who was asking a hell of a lot questions including why various people paid me £5 that week (for our weekly footy match). I felt that was quite intrusive and nothing to do with the payment I was making. They ended saying the payment would be approved. I then got a text later that night saying I hadn’t called them so the payment was being cancelled… so incompetent. I asked for £250 comp to make things better and they investigated and called me on Thursday to agree.

So all in a productive few weeks with HSBC comp!

When I called just now, they say there is a relationship so I’ve opened a complaint for it not working…

    Certainly worth complaining.
Also worth emailing help [at] ipass.com to confirm that HSBC have in fact severed the relationship.
Do consider what you value the ipass to be: they will ask you this to resolve the complaint. For me, it genuinely was a factor in me deciding the renew my card, as I like the in-flight wifi it offers.

Yep thanks. I had emailed ipass last week so your post is quite timely.

In this case the simplest option going forward would seem to be – spend £3k on day 1, wait 30 days, repeat.

Yep. 15 Nov £3k then 15th Oct, 14th dec etc
