We all asked for it. There is a huge thread on Flyertalk about the latest ‘enhancements’ not sure if there is a thread here – but it came about the same time as the hot breakfast enhancement. Customer feedback.

Sedate year for us:
Jan – Chiswick weekend (visiting son)
April – Riviera Maya – flop and sunshine
July – Edgbaston – Cricket
August – Chiswick weekend
October – Hampshire (wedding weekend)
December – TromsoWe do live in Cornwall so the rest of the time is at home.
I’d be tempted to book restaurants in advance if I went again – it can get quite busy, and we struggled to get into our first choice places.
Any recommends? Was it busy due to when you went or is it busy in general? We are there first week of December.
We took the plunge and have booked. Three nights flying out Thursday back Sunday. We opted for the Edge and have done the entire thing through BAH. BA CE flights LHR to TOS just a tad over 4K for four of us B&B.
If anyone has any further nuggets to help us plan then do share.

I am not a Curve user and neither am I travelling. But I am finding that random transactions are duplicating and sometimes a week after the original transaction has cleared onto the card. The current two I have are both Amazon purchases. One was duplicated immediately (7 Oct) and refunded so both the credit and debit are showing as pending. The other has appeared today (dated 10 Oct) and is an exact duplicate amount of a transaction on 9th Oct. There is no credit pending, just the debit. I only noticed something strange was going on when I came to reconcile the account, they use the pending transactions in the balance outstanding so that alerted me something was not quite right.

We went to Mauritius on a 2-4-1 in CW two years ago. It was very simple. Book the outward and ring up at midnight when the return is released.

Just renewed my silver jay, £55 with Halifax (no fx fees). Certainly worth it for an upcoming CW reward flight for the two of us; circa £100 each e/w – even at 7 days out having done it previously there was decent choice.

Not quite the same scenario but when I recently joined, I was presented with a statement for £0 and fee of £20 before my card had even arrived. I called Barclaycard and they immediately gave a £20 credit. In advance is fine, but not two weeks before the card and account can be used.

We are ex sandals visitors and can honestly say since Covid, the whole of the Caribbean needs an overhaul, not least Sandals resorts.
But having said that when we did go, we were part of their club and the points/benefits usually gave a good discount. They would also price match Kenwood Travel, who, when we did book were usually the cheapest.

I feel your pain, we recently had to stay overnight in Valencia when our evening flight when tech.
It was a very easy process to claim, https://www.britishairways.com/content/information/legal/flight-cancellation-compensation gives all the links and advice.
Lots of pax waited at the airport (until 2.30am for some we later found out) hoping for BA to provide accommodation. We opted to book our own, jump in a taxi and had a few drinks in the bar before bed. We didn’t get the new flight time until we woke at 6am.
We were on two separate PNRs and being a married couple only claimed for one hotel room (EU200) and a light snack (as it was late in the evening). We claimed for the taxi to the hotel and back again the next day (EU60) – both taxi drivers provided a receipt. We also claimed for a consequential loss of a hotel room which was prepaid in Heathrow for our original arrival night which they also paid (£100).
As the return flight (original aircraft) was stuck in Valencia when we did eventually return at noon the next day, there was no food or drink. We submitted a separate claim for the lack of CE service onboard and were each given 6000 Avios.
The EU261/UK261 filed with the claim was £220 each.
As far as timelines – claims filed on Monday, email confirmation on Tuesday and payment confirmation on Wednesday. Funds received Friday. Avios separate claim took about a week – this was initially closed as resolved without any resolution and I emailed to have it reopened.
In summary our four claims:
Passenger one – 1 x UK261 of £220
Passenger one – 1 x non supply of CE service (no food or drink)
Passenger two – 1 x UK261 of £220
1 x hotel in Valencia
2 x taxi (to and from airport)
1 x hotel in LHR (for the original night we would have arrived)
1 x meal (light snack as past midnight)Passenger two – 1 x non supply of CE service (no food or drink)

Have you tried ringing them? Or maybe clear cookies or use an incognito browser page?

Just to add to this. I applied (second time to have this card with the 24 month wait). Heard nothing in the 5 days I was told I would . Went onto x.com and was telephoned by one of the team who tried to chase it up. All in all it took another three weeks before I went back to them asking how I lodge a formal complaint, that was yesterday. Had a call back yesterday afternoon saying it is a known issue and the application is stuck in the ether. Lady I spoke with said she would refer it and ask them to manually process. Email at 7am this morning welcoming me to Barclaycard.

As everyone knows, it’s almost impossible to get decent fish & chips in the south and even more so in London!
You’ve not been to Cornwall then? Plenty down here that knock the socks off anything else in the UK.

Why bother? Wait for two months, and once you get your ducks in order, then apply.
Yeah my sensible head follows your logic – however the lure of the current offer of 80K Amex points is why I’d like to apply now.
🙂
There is always an offer. Mine was 100K at the end of last year.

We are in the deepest part of Cornwall.
No restaurants, nothing. And apart from Padstow, that is just how it is.
However we get value from the London-centric-dining because our son lives in Richmond.
Only once used it abroad (in Berlin) and that also gave us more chocolate cookies from the lounge entry than we could ever imagine eating!
Harvey Nics – perfumes, aftershaves and Le Creuset. Spends are easy.
The odd hotel stay.
Do I feel regionalised? Slightly, but I make it work.

We find the Avios stores works as well as it can. Yes there is the odd rejection but nigh on all the purchases work. We don’t clear cookies, we are on Macs and it just seems to track.

You sound excessively paranoid.
May be paranoid but never been hacked or identity stolen , unlike 200,000 (minimum estimate) non paranoid people in UK victims of cyber crime
You could be the subject of fraud from the next credit card to drop through your door.

We only have it on our BAPPs, at 10%.

Hilton £50 back on £200 popped up overnight.
I have this on BAPP and sup.
On Plat and sup we both have Spend £300 get £75 off with Hilton.

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘widely’ but I signed up via a referral from Player 1 for the 100K avios – it came up on his account in December 24.

Has anyone been able to use this since the website changed? There seems to be no place to enter the evoucher number when checking out now. Cash ticket, in line with voucher terms.
We too couldn’t manage it so we booked on the app. There is a voucher space to enter it. Stupid system.

Have they tried logging into Amex and going to https://www.americanexpress.com/en-gb/benefits/get-started/the-platinum-card/ it has them all listed there. The second option – enrol – has the hire car and hotel status benefits.

Not that I would want to buy from Very as they have dire after sales service, but they do usually do a 10% off Apple products if it is your first order. I think you may have to sign up to their buy now pay later but you can immediately cancel it.
