How can you manage someone else’s British Airways Club account?

Can someone else manage your British Airways Club account for you, as a third party nominee?  Can you run someone else’s British Airways Club account?

There are many reasons why you may prefer to manage the British Airways account of a friend, partner or family member on their behalf.

If you have ever booked a flight using miles from your partner’s account, but then had to persuade them to call BA when the booking needed changing, you will know what I mean.

How can you manage someone else's British Airways Club account?

Some people also have jobs or other commitments which make it inconvenient to call British Airways during the day, whilst their partner is happily sat behind a desk for eight hours.

The good news is that British Airways allows a member to nominate someone else to manage their British Airways Club account.

They need to create a ‘third party nominee’ for their account, or you need to create one via your account if someone else will be your nominee.

You aren’t even restricted to one nominee.  A member can list up to five people who will have access to their account.

Once a member has added you as a nominee to their British Airways Club account, you can call BA and book tickets, amend or cancel tickets or enquire about anything to do with their account.  The only thing that you cannot do on behalf of the other person is make any changes to the membership of a Household Account.

I have been a nominee for my wife for many years. It has made it very easy to, for example, book open-jaw redemption flights (flights returning from a different airport to the arrival airport) using her Avios, which is a feature not available online and requiring an often lengthy call to British Airways.

How do you add someone to manage your British Airways account?

To add a third party nominee to a British Airways Club account, you need to visit this page of ba.com and click ‘Add A New Nominee’.

This is what you are agreeing to when you add a nominee:

  • By submitting the details of my nominee in this form, I give them permission to access and change the information held in my British Airways Club account
  • I understand that, when contacting The British Airways Club to discuss my account, my nominee will be asked to identify themselves using the information submitted in this form
  • I am aware that I can cancel this nomination whenever necessary, and that I must review my nominations when my British Airways Club account card is renewed
  • I understand that my sensitive personal data, as defined in the Data Protection Act, will be retained by British Airways for the purposes of providing the service I have signed up to
  • I understand that British Airways will use the personal data of both me and my nominees to communicate with me. This could be by post, email, fax or telephone, if I have provided these details. As with any standard email, British Airways’ response will be sent in non-encrypted format.
  • I understand that British Airways can disclose data related to my account to any of my nominees

As well as giving the name and email address of the nominee, you will need to create a password for them to quote when calling British Airways. It only takes a couple of minutes and then you are good for life.

Great tip as I didn’t know about this. If the nominee books or makes changes to a BA AMEX 2 for 1 flight and there’s a new charge, will BA allow them to use the payment card on file which is in your partners name (a condition of the voucher) or does your partner have to be present on the call to authorise it?

  • Fiona says:

I have this as I am profoundly deaf. The only drawback with the password is there is no ‘clue’ for the password. I have completely forgotten what the password is!

  • Phillip says:

I recently asked for seat allocation for a non-status traveller on the same flights as me, but separate booking, taking advantage of the BAC Gold benefit and they wouldn’t do it unless the other person called to give permission or I was a third party nominee on their account. Having used this benefit a number of times in the past, it’s the first time I’ve had to go through extra hoops!

  • Mark says:

It’s a great feature. A while back I phoned at midnight to get Club World seats to Cape Town 355 days in advance using a 241 in my wife’s name; she was very grateful it was me doing the call and not her!

  • masaccio says:

We just share the iCloud password with each other, but I can see how if you are speaking to humans this feature would be helpful. Would your nominee also be able to do things like 2FA reset? That’s the only time OH has needed to contact BA in the past few years.

  • Kevin says:

I use this a lot – but they often ask for a more info than just the password (perhaps, understandably). Both booking ref, their address, dob, account number and – then – the password.

  • Gill says:

Slightly different question but I’m 3rd party nominee. Cardholder travelled recently and was downgraded due to full flight. Business to Premium Economy. No refund of difference in fare and only offered.£200 compensation. What are your thoughts on this offer.

    • Rob says:

The law is the law, and the law says you get 75% of what you paid for that leg.

  • Russ says:

If the nominee has gold status can they use that status on the other account to transfer Avios to another account or reserve seats on booking if main account holder only has blue
