Slightly related question – what checks (if any), do Amex conduct on additional cardholders? I have the Business Gold card, and I’m offered 5k points for each employee who takes out a card. There is an option to select that the employee has the same address as the business. Could I just order cards for my mum, dad & brother? How likely are Amex to check they are actually employees?

I finally have my card after Barclays admitted they lost two applications due to a known system fault. I’d advise anyone else experiencing delays to submit a formal complaint, as they seem to be the only team capable of making progress. The first monthly fee was added to the account a few days before the card arrived, which I thought was cheeky, but I’ve accepted £125 as compensation for the delays.

I’ve now been waiting over a month for a response, and heard nothing at all from Barclaycard in that time. I phoned up and was told “you will hear from us in due course”. The agent was unable to quantify if “due course” is days, weeks or months.

I needed a recipt from Delta to claim expenses, and it definitely shows the transaction was in USD.
As far as I can remember, payment was taken within the app, without redirecting me to a third party processing site.
Delta have my UK address on file.

I recently paid Delta US$80 for an extra bag allowance. On my statement, the description says 80.00 @ 01.346 BEL and the location is given as Brussels. (I was in New York when I made the payment).
The interest and charges line at the top of the statement says £0.00, so clearly no FX fee, but I don’t know why.

Does anyone know if the ability to use the voucher to upgrade a cash booking is staying? Or is that being removed after Oct 30?

So is there a final asnwer on this? I took out the Virgin card 3 months ago and want to use Curve to avoid the foreign transaction fee on some flight bookings. Are Virgin likely to apply fees?

Somehow you’ve missed this but it’s been known (and widely discussed) since the upgrade voucher’s inception that you can’t use it to book connecting flights online, you need to call BA!

Does the Barclays voucher get access to additional reward seats if you start with a domestic connection? I know the Amex vouchers do, but they work entirely online.

The Ombudsman has partially upheld my complaint. They accept I was given misleading information which caused me to stop using the card during the notice period and awarded £50 compensation. Even though I stopped using the card because of that misleading information, the card did remain available if I wanted to use it. So, for that reason, they agree the partial fee refund should be calculated from December rather than October.

They acknowledge I would have continued using the card if I had not been given misleading information but will not order Creation to issue any additional points to make up for this.
The £50 is the same as suggested by the case investigator, which I accepted but Creation rejected.

It is frustrating that the Ombudsman agrees I stopped using the card because of wrong information given by Creation, but then limits the compensation because it was my choice not to use the card.
It’s incredibly poor that the Ombudsman has taken 1 year and 7 months to reach a decision, so I’m now going to complain to the Independent Assessor for the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Creation is still insisting that the pro-rata refund is due from the end of the two-month notice period, even though the FOS case handler agreed with me that the card lost its value from the moment they stopped giving out points. Creation is still clinging to the IHG Rewards Club T&Cs as giving them the right to withdraw benefits at any time. The case handler suggested a £50 goodwill payment (on top of the fee refund as calculated by Creation), but they rejected this. So now we finally go to an Ombudsman.

I’m sure the Ombudsman will be thrilled you have decided to use their seniority to adjudicate over £16.50 (2 months of the annual fee).

I accepted the proposal; Creation did not, so it was their decision to escalate. Thanks for your sanctimonious reply, which contributes nothing of value to the discussion.

How are some people missing out on two free night vouchers?

@BA-flyer I take it the response from your FOS case handler didn’t say if it’s an internal meeting, or with Creation (FOS Relations & RCA Officer possibly??)

Let’s see what consistent (and fair) outcomes result from this next step!

FOS and Creation could do with bringing this to a conclusion!

It didn’t say; the reply above is exactly as I received it. (Minus the case handlers name).

My latest update from the FOS is below. I rejected the offer from Creation (even though they still transferred points and a free night voucher). I’ve set out my reasons for rejecting the offer, and explained what I believe I am still due.

As there are a large number of similar complaints about this issue with Creation, we want to ensure we’re being consistent with the outcomes we’re reaching and that no one is being short-changed. Unfortunately, this means that it’ll take a little longer than we’d like to get answers out to consumers like yourself.
I have a meeting scheduled for 7 June 2023 during which your complaint will be assessed. I’m sorry for this delay but we should be able to let you know where you stand following that meeting.

I don’t see a specific reference in the terms that says codeshares are excluded, but they do say you can only book into ticket classes G, P and A. Perhaps codeshares never use these classes, but in theory, if you find one that does, the voucher should be valid.

@Aston100 you are so busy criticising everything and everyone (not just me) on lots of threads that I’m not sure you can tell a good deal from a guava, but there we are.

It’s a good deal because people are getting vouchers to which they aren’t strictly entitled and it’s at least as good a deal if not a better deal than people got at MCOL where the fact that for many it ended in a settlement rather than a judgment suggests neither side got exactly what they wanted.

Yes, it has taken ages for the FOS to resolve this, but ultimately they have successfully pressured Creation into delivering what people sought. Creation appears to be starting to deliver much more quickly than expected and it seems a little trigger happy to chase Creation or the FOS quite yet for any missing elements as it’s clearly work in progress.

I also think you need to get this whole Creation saga into some sort of perspective. It affected a tiny number of people (albeit very vocal ones) temporarily depriving them of some points and hotel vouchers. The FOS has much, much more serious complaints where people have life changing issues like lost their pensions and savings.

Why would the FOS pressure any organisation into delivering something to which people were not strictly entitled?

Complaints to an independent assessor about FOS investigators failing to properly deal with complaints rose from 13 per cent in 2020-21 to 31 per cent in 2021-22.

My final Creation statements confirm they withheld 1,666 points. I also see this total when I log into my Creation account. Today I’ve received 524 points as a goodwill adjustment.
My Creation account shows nothing about a fee refund or credit balance.

I also have the free night voucher, which is valid for 1 year. Every time you want to try a new date or new city, you have to click ‘redeem’ in the IHG rewards wallet. If you just change the original search, it tells you no availability. (Never used to be like that).

The FOS marked me as a rejection, since I had the audacity to say I needed more detail on eligibility before accepting.

I had the exact same reply, also from Joshua. Nothing to do with queue barging as @JDB arrogantly suggests. I’m trying to furnish myself with all the facts (such as if I am considered eligible or not), before agreeing to anything.
My email from FOS also clearly uses the words “full and final settlement”. It’s remarkable the extent @JDB is going to in order to defend Creation. A bit like those MPs who still swear blind that Boris is innocent.

There shouldn’t be any dispute about the points or the pro-rata fee refund although for the latter some are seemingly trying to claim from a date they deemed the card useless which seems a bit of a fool’s errand as if that was what they felt, they could have closed the card at that time.

Creation confirmed to me in early October that no points or vouchers would be issued. Why shouldn’t I expect a refund from the moment the card no longer served its purpose? You say I could have just closed the card at that time. What would that achieve? Creation wouldn’t have offered a partial refund back then, and closing the card myself could have been seen as acceptance of their actions.

I again raised that how can I accept something when I don’t know what it is, their response:

The settlement you’d receive upon acceptance of the offer made by Creation will be individual to you in line with the points and vouchers you would have been eligible to receive.
If you have any concerns after this settlement is issued that an error has been made you would then contact Creation to raise these concerns, Should Creation fail to address these concerns then you can get back in touch with us.

And wait another 1.5 years for the FOS to investigate? No thanks!

I was earning around 6,000 points a month for several months before account closure. (No MS involved). As soon as it became clear Creation were not transferring points, I stopped using my card. No doubt Creation would argue that as I did not use the card, no points are due under this offer. But I would have earned those points in the final month if Creation acted fairly.

Creation will probably calculate a pro-rata annual fee refund from the point they actually closed the account. I would argue that the card became worthless to me as soon as it became clear Creation were not planning to honour points and vouchers.

I asked FOS to consider both these points when I complained. This offer fails to address either.

It’s more the annoyance of having to explain to my finance team why I broke policy and used a personal card for a corporate expense. Somebody in America will look at the website (which states Amex accepted), and delay reimbursement.
Just posting here as an FYI for others – check this is resolved if you plan to stay here and pay by Amex.

Has anyone found any participating London restaurants where buying gift cards online triggers the credit? Duck & Waffle looks as though they handle gift card sales themselves, without using a third party.

Does anyone have experience of taking an airline to court after ADR has ruled against you? It’s clear from the adjudicators report that they either didn’t understand my claim, or didn’t bother reading it. E.g. they don’t actually comment on any of the evidence I uploaded.
Alternatively, has anyone appealed an ADR decision? In this case, it’s Aviation ADR and EasyJet.
