Forums Other Destination advice Saudi visas?

  • 438 posts

I going to need a flight from UAE to Saudi to then a flight from Saudi a few hours later that is on a different booking/airline, so I’ll need to enter the country, collect bags, go back thru security for the next flight etc.

Which sort of visa is needed for this and where do you apply for it? The stopover visa seems to only be bookable thru saudia/flynas but is that only available if you have a flight into saudi with those airlines and then also a flight out with them, so not available if the flight out is on a different airline?

The second option seems to be a $40 single entry visa, presumably that would be sufficient rather than needing the $160 full visa?

yes if on a UK (or EU) passport, its technically the e-visa waiver (which has the $40 fee you mention), this is good for visits up to 180 days, you apply and will have it within 2 days, make sure you go through the visit saudi webpage to land on the correct portal

and if you are stopping at Riyadh or Jeddah, the Saudia lounges are very good if you have sky team status! The Riyadh one has a chef doing fresh eggs/omelettes etc in the morning, and pizzas later in the day, aswell as a desert and coffee bar

Yes, the visa waiver ($40) one would be sufficient. Just note that you can only apply up to 90 days before your flight, so don’t apply too early. I got mine immediately. The annoying part of that you have to provide 5 years of travel history!

Do they just want a list of countries visited, or dates too???

Crossing them off my list of countries to visit then. I doubt the box would be big enough for all the ones I’ve been to in the last 5 years 🙂

Think same here.. just too many, as for remembering dates, forget it….

Dates too. After I completed it, realised there was one other trip I forgot to include!
With the planned expansion of Riyadh Air, hopefully they do something about their visa process.

This shows what they anticipate about the tourists visiting their country. Odd

I guess now I’ll be banned as they may track my IP quite easily

Get a second UK passport and use that for these countries. You can just declare the ones on that passport.

That’s a fair point. I’ve nearly 3/4 filled my passport in less than 3 years, so I’ll need a new one well before the 10 is up.

Ok, but simply replacing an old passport will still make you liable to report travel history on the old one.
Probably I wasn’t clear, you can request a second valid passport that you can hold at the same time as the first. This was mainly introduced for those who might have to travel to two countries not close politically. Israel and Arab countries. India and Pakistan. You’d rather not enter the second country on the same passport as the first.

Does it need every overseas trip youve taken in five years and the dates? More importantly is there any way they can actually check? Listing triple digit trips is.. not appealing.

You dont need to complete the travel history for the Saudi visa waiver, I haven’t completed it on any of the several visas I have purchased and travelled on (including tje Visa which I purchased for my trip to Jeddah Airport / Mecca 2 weeks ago)

Ok that’s more like it.. they do the very odd rare Asia sale. We were tempted a few years ago… will keep an eye out. But, would actually prefer an Oman sale now.

Ok gotcha. I’ve seen that option.

So did you answer “no” to the question asking if you have travelled overseas in the last 5 years?

If you tick “yes”, it asks you to provide the country, dates and reason for travel. As I got the visa waiver immediately, it didn’t feel like it was checked by anyone, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable deliberately omitting information next time.

Well, Kuwait asks you to upload your birth certificate in their e-visa application. As I don’t have a birth certificate, I uploaded a blank image, and was able to enter the country with no trouble.

I selected yes and then left the section which requests I list out all the countries blank. As I understand it from asking people I know who travel Saudi on these visas (and searching online) quite a lot of people leave it blank, but yes, I suppose it depends on your risk appetite !

    @Tiberius

Thanks, that’s interesting. Didn’t realise you could tick yes but leave it blank. I suppose if it does cause an issue, you could get a visa on arrival instead.

I ticked yes and only gave my most recent trip dates.

Flying UC with Virgin from Riyadh but no status with Sky Team. I guess it will just be the Plaza Premium one.
