I know it’s only a short stopover for you, but if you are fairly mobile and can swim, book yourself a day trip to Wadi Shab – walk and swim through canyon and caves!.

You won’t regret it, google it 👍

We stayed at the W a few years back when it first opened and it was impressive….especially the restaurants. The pool area is very nice and the beach is adjacent but public. Nice for a stroll.

No, you wouldn’t be staying at Wadi Shab, Wadi Shab is an hour and a half or so from Muscat, it’s just a day trip I’m suggesting to swim in a canyon.

Base yourself at a hotel in the Muscat area for beach and sea, you’ll have to fly in and out of there anyway.

You can but there were no beach facilities or beach club when we were there. They did have nice showers as you walk back into the hotel complex to wash off any sand. The St Regis would be a better choice if you are really focused on the beach.

There are already quite a few threads on Muscat and Omani hotels in general, with a lot of helpful/useful advice. All copied below:

Headforpoints have also reviewed one or two hotels in the country.

For what it is worth, I stayed in the W hotel with a girlfriend in Oct 2025. I enjoyed staying there with a mate. I wouldn’t stay there with my husband and baby.

Be warned, if you stay on a Friday the music does get loud around the pool all day and in to the night. The majority of rooms wrap around the very large central pool.

We stayed at the Kempinski Hotel when we visited Oman in March 2020. Although no status got a room upgrade. It had a lovely pool and breakfast was one of the best buffets we’ve ever had. It was by the beach (we didn’t use it) but looked fine. Think it could be same beach as St Regis. There were some nice Lebanese restaurants within walking distance. We were there for about 4 nights before hiring a car and going further afield. It was easy to drive there and if only for a day would recommend hiring a car. There are some castles/forts not too far away.

We stayed at the Chedi in muscat and would say it was one of the nicest hotels we have stayed around the world.

I second the comments about The Chedi. Not sure what the deal is currently but with Amex FHR two years ago, you got a double (ie $200) credit towards food and beverages. We only stayed a night so the value was superb when you factored in free breakfast, 4pm check out and an upgrade.
