Barclaycard just shut me down. Such a shame – there was (is) so much value to be had there….
Good thing my son turns 18 soon… 😉
Which rule(s) of the game did they enforce?
Well I guess you have made a lot of money out of it as it takes a lot to push Barclays to they. This explains your interest in the HSBC WE card with your comment under today’s article. They are much stricter and also don’t award points on a raft of unspecified transaction types even if they don’t apply cash advance fees to many of those.

’acting outside of the reward rules’. Whatever that means. I know I’m within the rules but clearly way outside the spirit. And they can close my account at will, so no point moaning. Being 5 million points to the good, I guess I can’t complain. All games come to an end. I am however hoping for a rematch.

Yes I feared that. Just looking for the next opportunity. It’s not about the money really. More a sport…
Ah … Swiss Jim the destroyer … (the new Paul)
Does this herald Barclaygate?
IIRC Jim was telling us about £35k worth of points every year a while back.
That doesn’t add up to 5 million though!

Sadly HHonors points not Avios. I never applied for the Avios card as didn’t want the 6 month enforced break given my earnings rate (it’s always been a niggle that I chose badly). Anyway, hence my unhealthy obsession with Hilton – here SLH helps…
You posted in the Barclaycard avios forum so what were we supposed to think, lol?!
Your son being about to turn 18 won’t help as the HH card was closed to new applicants some years ago (another reason I thought you meant the avios card!)
I like this card as well, however only do a handful of Hilton nights each year these days and also have gold via the Amex Plat so it wouldn’t be the end of the world if they’re ending certain, ah, relationships!

Plan is he’ll take out the Barclays Avios card. Then game back on…
Very curious, even though I wouldn’t partake lol.
Just FYI, the Barclaycard Avios cards only let’s you earn 4x your credit limit per month in points, so you probably wouldn’t be able to earn as much as you were on the HH card.
18 year olds don’t generally get massive credit limits.

As others have said many times, try try and try again. You’ll be surprised at what works that you think shouldn’t. And then keep strictly to yourself / share by word of mouth only to very close friends. I have one who is now over 2 million Avios to the good – and not banned yet 🤞
Everything done is before anyone asks always strictly in line with terms and conditions (so you need to read them, properly). Wouldn’t do otherwise. And you need to accept if you choose to play that a banning order can appear at any time….
Too true about reading (and understanding) the terms and conditions but it’s worth bearing in mind that they cannot and do not cover every eventuality and that both parties are required to act reasonably and lawfully. HSBC has its own (unpublished) view of reasonableness and what types of transactions are eligible for points that goes beyond the position of Barclays.
While the card provider doesn’t have to give any reasons for shutting someone down, they must act reasonably in doing so and would have to provide evidence of that (often confidentially) to a court or ombudsman if challenged. Likewise, the cardholder must act lawfully and in a reasonable manner.
And @Swiss-Jim as for keeping these things about the smart collection and spending of Avios/points under one’s hat or to a very close and reliable circle, that’s even truer!
Anyone want to spell out how to max the game?

You having a laugh?
Anyone want to spell out how to max the game?
Yes, no problem. Now listen carefully…start with the IHG Creation black credit card, then introduce Bendy, the revolutionary Cha, another hotel credit card (can’t remember what we called that one) mixed in with a bit of seagull and you’ll have the ingredients for a perfect pre covid success!!! Good luck. 😉
@Harrier25 😂 You’ve got me going round in circles.
