    Does MH interline to BA flights on separate tickets?

    I see the below text on their website and unfortunately my MH>BA flights will be the return leg of the trip.

    “For flights on oneworld member airlines, Malaysia Airlines still allows passengers to check-through to a final destination with baggage even if the sectors are ticketed separately on separate bookings provided the travel begins with Malaysia Airlines. Please note that this may not be possible on your return journey if travel begins with another oneworld member airline that chooses to adhere to the new oneworld obligation. Certain oneworld and code-share flights allow our passengers to check-through while some do not. Please confirm the status of your ticket at the check-in counter.“

    Should I book the return leg as a separate ticket to work around the ‘return leg’ restriction? It’s a 2-4-1 booking, so I need to book the return leg myself and call BA for applying the voucher?

    They’ve told me on the phone that they interline with all one world partners.
    Their FAQs confirm this
    They offered to through check my luggage from Kuching (Borneo) > Kuala Lumpur> Bangkok > Doha > Birmingham.
    The last couple of flights being on Qatar with award tickets (separate booking).
    I declined as I felt it was too risky and picked up my luggage in Bangkok and checked back in again.

    So I see no reason why they can’t do that for you on your separate ticket BA flight.

    What would have been too risky? Theres more risk of masconnecting having to pick up luggage. They also basically check you in to all flights so again less risk.

    @OP
    If that’s what it says then I would assume it’s fine. Qatar will happily interline in my experience makes return legs less of a worry.

    Yes MH does offer check through to other OW airlines even on separate tickets. Just did this last month KUL-SIN-LON

    Will it work if there are 3 separate itineraries; all One World but first leg Malaysian. If yes, how does it work if you have a 1-2 days stopover on one of your itineraries?

    If you have a stopover you’ll get the bags back. Then you’d have to check them in per normal

    MH will generally try to do whatever is asked across Oneworld. I once got them to check a bag SIN-KUL-DOH-CPH-LHR-MAN across 3 separate bookings. The bags didn’t make it (the QR/BA handover broke) but tbh having my case full of dirty clothes delivered 24 hours after I landed was fine!

    A bag can’t be checked through when a flight is scheduled to depart more than 24 hours after the previous flight is scheduled to arrive.

    Not surprised at this. I had thought Scandis would be efficient but SAS is the only airline to misconnect my bags on their own tickets. 40 mins at ZRH is never a problem, but CPH, ARN and OSL need at least 2.5 hours or there is a high risk of late delivery (I’m more annoyed about the wait at the carousel when they know they didn’t load the bags, although I guess I could use airtags or something).
