Forums Other Destination advice Jersey?

It’s Mrs NunoBettencourtsPinky’s birthday in May, and I’m looking at a surprise 2 night weekend away to Jersey, taking advantage of the current Logan Air Avios deal from Southampton.

I know zero about Jersey – is it worth the trip for a romantic(ish) birthday weekend?

Any pointers or recommendations once there for hotels, restaurants, sights etc appreciated. We kinda set the bar pretty high last year with various trips around Europe (we took in San Sebastian, Vienna, Venice and Tuscany all of which we both loved), so don’t want to disappoint, or be disappointed!

Jersey has great food and some decent hotels. I have eaten in Bohemia which is in St Helier, some of the best food I have ever eaten, but not cheap, I think the Telegraph included it in their 10 best restaurants in the UK at one stage. Out of town the Langueville Manor Hotel is lovely with excellent food and a great wine list. Going west the Atlantic Hotel is good, again with really good food although it is more isolated.

Based on what you have enjoyed, I think you might find Jersey underwhelming and earn zero brownie points. It’s rather provincial, rather dull and rather expensive. And the food isn’t up to much. While there are great views, northern Brittany, not much further, offers so much more in every regard.

If you enjoy walking hand in hand, quaint beaches, ice cream cones, nice pubs and something a little different then Jersey might be for you. I have been a few time staying in 4 different locations and always had a great trip.

Get a car and scoot around the island. There is plenty to see and do for a short trip. I can reccomend Langueville Manor Hotel if youre happy to spend a little more. Its a little off location for walking although its not too far from the seafront but comfortable and somewhere I would happily return. Other than that look at the Raddison Blu in St Helier, a little bland but if youre looking at location its pretty much perfect. The Grand Hotel is prehaps a little less grand than its once was but again somewhere I would revisit. Buses and taxis are plentiful if you dont want a car, there are plenty of excursions around if you prefer.

No agro at customs, 40 mins from London and some lovely places to explore.

pre covid we used to go in February for the weekend, literally first flight out Saturday, last flight back Sunday once a year. if paying Avios, make sure to check the cash price on the return flight as it was normally very cheap in cash only due to low taxes. Longueville Manor is great place to stay, go for the set menu at lunch, was always decent value, look out for the cheese trolley! and a very nice breakfast. plenty of decent restaurants on the island and lots of nice beaches and walks. Car hire was cheap as chips with Avis. I wouldn’t go there for a week but for a long/weekend it’s fine. Im going to Guernsey in May for the first time in 30 odd years so looking forward to seeing that again

L’Horizon Luxury Beach Hotel & Spa in St Brelade’s Bay. Fantastic!
