Flying to JNB next week for honeymoon and managed to snatch first class seats. This is probably the only time we’ll do FC so just wanted to check with some folks who are veterans on how to really make the most of it.
Planning to spend a few hours in the Concorde lounge, but besides this – what else should we do to make the most of the experience?
I’ve not flown F on BA, so no idea.
But just wanted to congratulate you never the less.I’ve not flown F on BA, so no idea.
But just wanted to congratulate you never the less.Appreciated, thanks! Not sure what I was more excited for… the wedding or flying in F!
It sounds like it’s going to be an amazing honeymoon. Don’t forget to use the First Wing to check in (unless you’re connecting from a region).

3 weeks in SA, cannot wait! Yes, planning to use First Wing and then straight to the Concorde lounge. Flying direct from LHR so all good to use that check in.
Congrats! I would say leave a little more time for CCR as food is similar to restaurant service rather than any buffet so takes longer for each course to come out. There is also a dedicated you first phoneline for any booking changes etc. I also had managed to get the onboard menu in advance by emailing you first but not sure if this is still a thing as not flown it for a while
This is the conundrum….do you spend the time in the lounge or spend it onboard?….personally if it was me and I was on the 1830, I woud spend less time in the lounge and enjoy onboard the food and drink but if the 2130, I would spend more time in the lounge and get a good nights sleep and wake up for a decent breakfast……good luck with the a380!

We are on the later flight so that’s a good shout. I didn’t really think about this – it’s a lengthy flight so we could possibly still eat in both the lounge earlier and then enjoy dinner on the flight and sleep after. But that’s something we need to chat about for sure.
I’d be happy to get a good 5-6 hours sleep and enjoy the seat beforehand getting our head down.

Planning to arrive LHR at 5pm for 9pm flight. That should be plenty of time right?
It may be too late now given the timescale, but if there is still a choice don’t sit in row 1. You’re closer to the chatter from the crew up front, and in the middle pair you spend the flight looking at the really irritating illuminated BA logo right in front of you.
The earliest and I mean earliest you would eat is about 2245, if on time and do you want to eat at that time of night?
Honestly the lounge outweighs onboard food by miles, so arriving 1700 would be perfect and by the time you graze 🙂 in there, all you want to do is collapse in a stuper lol. Then wake up about 0630 GMT and have a leisurely breakfast….I get you wouyld want to enjoy every aspect but for me it is one or the other…..It may be too late now given the timescale, but if there is still a choice don’t sit in row 1. Think we got the last 2 tbh, so we are in the middle two (row 3). Not in the front at least
The best things about BA first class is the Concorde Lounge and the small cabin with two crew looking after few people. We’ve had amazing crew on the times we’ve flown First Class. Champagne is normally something special. Great PJs and bedding, as you leave it makes the business club suites look cramped ! Enjoy !

We’ll make the most of it there and see how we feel for the flight. 11 hour flight so even if we don’t eat, we’ve got some time to just enjoy the experience on the flight

As a champagne lover, it’s probably the thing I’m most excited about. I’ve gone from “I probably won’t drink on this flight and try sleep well” to “I can’t wait to go through a bottle”
I would book a cabana in the Concorde lounge ask at the desk when you go in, nice showers and quieter spot. Also try different parts of the lounge – dining, terrace and bar. Personally if you like Champagne is great as they also now have great English sparkling wine on flyertalk they have what’s currently on board so you can plan ahead.
Do try and discretely mention to the cabin crew that it’s not only your honeymoon but also your first First flight – if they’re any good they will hopefully make a big fuss over you (and if you’re lucky may gift you a bottle of bubbles).
If you like wine, I believe you can ask to taste your way through the onboard menu.

Thanks for the tips! I’m sure they’ll be able to tell by our faced that this is our first First experience, ha!
I’d eat in the lounge and then have dessert (or a second dessert) on board. With a hot drink or wine to accompany dessert.
+1 that if you gently work into conversation that it’s your honeymoon, then (some) staff love to make a fuss. Put it on the notes to your hotel booking(s) too and you will possibly arrive to some mild upgrades and/or gifts.
Congratulations!

Definitely in South Africa many years ago but we got nice upgrades and bottles of wine on our honeymoon – sadly we were only in economy then did get offered some champagne on board though.
Thank you for the tips! We’ve tried to book all our hotels, lodges etc direct and told them on booking it’s for a honeymoon. I’ve also emailed over a photo of our wedding certificate just as a little reminder to them. I’m sure we’ll find a way to let the staff know onboard of our special occasion.
I’ve flown precisely once on BA in F, JFK to LHR, so my experience is limited! Our plane went tech, so we were very late departing. Bearing in mind this possibility I wouldn’t be too early for my flight, even for a honeymoon. Lounge in JFK was great, and mainly slept on the plane. Crew were fantastic, and we didn’t mention a honeymoon or first time flying in First – they clearly just made a fuss of everyone. One thing to remember, seat selection is free in F (or at least was when I did it) so get your seat booked now. Look forward to a lovely flight.
Enjoy the CCR – leave enough time – and save some space for on-board bubbles (last time they just left a bottle of LPGS on our table!). Also ask if they have spare pyjamas (not everyone takes them) as they make a great Xmas present for someone 😉
Most important – just be polite, and ask for anything you need. If it’s possible, it shall be delivered! Unless it’s chicken nuggets – DYKWIA in 1A was very upset when he overhead my son, 14, getting the children’s menu and there were no nuggets for him 😁
