I’m planning a trip to Buenos Aires in Feb 27. I’ve boon looking at availability (in general, not for Feb 27) over the last few months and there doesn’t seem to be any, even a year in advance, in any class (I want club for that distance). I will have a BAPP voucher.
I understand the flight stops first in Rio where there seems to be more reward availability. Is it possible to book to Rio with rewards and then book a separate (either cash or Avios) ticket to Buenos Aires and stay on the same plane?
BA can’t ticket the same plane sector on its own.
Demand can be very high around the half term school holiday.
There look to be a fair bit of outbound availability in April and May but that’s about it. I’m assuming this is also an Iberia route – have you considered departing from MAD? Lots of info on here about book IB redemptions.
@Leamunroe – at the moment Buenos Aires is both the victim of popularity and BA’s unpredictable distribution of reward seats between destinations on its small number of one stop routes. February is high season in Argentina as it’s the tail end of the summer holidays with schools going back in late February/early March. As suggested above, it’s worth considering flying with Iberia via Madrid which doesn’t add much time to your journey as the BA direct flight stops for 1h30 in Rio (and it’s not possible to do that on two tickets as you would have to disembark in Rio).
You can use your BAPP voucher on Iberia and while it’s cheaper in Avios and cash to break your ticket in Madrid, that does mean either overnighting in Madrid or going through immigration twice, collecting and rechecking bags etc. and it’s still cheaper in Avios and cash for a through ticket with Iberia vs BA direct. The added benefit is the choice of three daily departures from Madrid to Buenos Aires (two day time flights departing at breakfast or lunch time) and a midnight overnight flight. All offer a better aircraft, seat and cleanliness vs BA as well as superior service, food and wine. The lounge in Madrid is reasonably good. Reward availability is usually quite good.
Been looking to book flights to Buenos Aires next October/November from Mad (after a separate flight from Man to reduce taxes) and returning to Man via Mad – it seems Iberia stop flying from Man around September next year which makes planning the return now more convoluted if trying to use Avios. May look at a cash flight with Tap to return via Rio? It does seem to be getting harder now to use Avios from Man.
Thanks @northernlass & @JDB. I hadn’t thought of the obvious – flying Iberia. Very happy to overnight in Madrid.
I will check the forums too but can I open jaw on Iberia? My outbound is to Buenos Aires but my return will be from Miami.

Noted, thank you. I need to be in Buenos Aires by 2nd Feb so will hopefully miss the half-term traffic.
Yes, of course. But need to call BA.
