Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Platinum application admin question

  • 147 posts

    Good morning everyone.

There are probably proper financial sites like MSE where this would fit better but I’m not really inclined towards fiscal competence & I’m sure that this community will have the answer, so please forgive my very tenuous link to points gathering in this question.

I’m going to apply for Amex Plat within this latest bonus points offer (Oct 14th I believe). It’s been a while since I made a cc application so I was wondering about the processing timeline.

If I complete the application Online on, just as an example, 7th October (and assuming it’s granted):
Is that my new forever account date?
Will my first statement be generated on 6th November?
The card fee as I recall is posted on that 1st statement isn’t it?
So that would mean payment of my first month’s account (plus card fee) would be around 4th/5th December?
Finally, how close to the 14th Oct closing date would people risk an application?

    TIA, as always 😊

Yes to your Q re account opening/anniversary date.

However no to your statement date question, you don’t necessarily get a full calendar month before your first statement. Amex use a few fixed statement dates, and you can choose another one of these in your account if the default date doesn’t suit.

Your final question depends on your appetite for risk; how annoyed would you be if you missed the deadline due to pushing the application out to the final date? I’d allow at least ‘a few’ days in case of any problems.

I don’t think you can choose the statement date during application, it just gets assigned and is visible in your online account in a few days. If you need to change it, call them and they can even extend or shorten the current statement period to align with your preferred date.

Thanks @Scott and @BBbetter I didn’t know about the fixed statement date thing at all. And yes, I suppose the application date was a stupid question as I definitely wouldn’t risk losing out by playing brinkmanship with the date!
