My son down under has said to ‘be aware ‘. Amex are going to devalue airline point transfers.
Probably roll out over here too, sooner or later.saw the very unwelcome news of MR devaluation in Australia. Hope its not a trend!
This is the second one we’ve had in 6 years – all the airline partners used to be 1:1, then 2:1, now a lot will be 3:1. That’s a hell of a loss. Amex here seems to be pushing more for increased acceptance rather than keeping swipe fees higher.

Isn’t the central bank proposing to disallow surcharges and reduce interchange fees? Although there seems to be some rearguard action, this seems like Amex anticipating the changes.
That will give an incentive for those with both UK and Aus cards to transfer their MR points from Australia to the UK. Worse than the current 2:1 given the exchange rate at the moment but much better than 3:1.
The total opposite of the situation before the last Aussie devaluation when those transferring from the UK to Australia were quids in.Brutal.
Amex did give three months notice and there are specific issues/changes in the Australian credit card market, one can’t help thinking that with Amex currently handing out ever increasing crazy amounts of MR here, those inflationary effects might easily lead to devaluation.
